Donations that Make a Difference

We help people get well and live healthier. Across the CHS organization, we all work daily to fulfill this purpose. But, sometimes, it takes more than quality medical services to achieve the goal of well-being in our communities. This year, CHS hospitals joined forces on two impactful programs – and made some pretty great donations – to enhance the quality of life in their respective communities.

National Doctors Day

Physicians at Santa Rosa Medical Center donated $1,500 to two local organizations, Santa Rosa Kids’ House and FoodRaising Friends, Inc. in honor of National Doctors Day.

Health systems across the U.S. set aside March 30th every year to recognize physicians for their skills, sacrifices and service to society and their communities.

In celebration of this year’s National Doctors Day, most CHS affiliates chose to honor their medical staffs by donating to local charities in lieu of the small gifts shared in years past. With many hospitals asking physicians to select their favorite local non-profits, CHS hospitals donated $216,100 to a wide range of organizations, most of which work to address social determinants of health for the most vulnerable populations in their communities.

This change in direction was met with tremendous support and appreciation by physicians and everyone at CHS is thrilled to honor physicians by supporting some of the causes that matter most to them.

Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive

Talk about spreading the love – how about spreading it with enough peanut butter to make one million sandwiches?

Food insecurity is a social determinant of health. Without adequate nutrition, overall health suffers. And, even though peanut butter is a nutritious food with a long shelf life, unfortunately, many U.S. food banks report it is one of the least donated food items. That’s why CHS hospitals conducted their first ever Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive to coincide with National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day on April 2, 2023.

Through the Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive, employees across the organization collected more than 64,000 jars of peanut butter and other nut butters, which is enough to make more than one million sandwiches. All of the peanut butter was donated to local food banks in the communities where it was collected.

We are proud that together, our hospitals, physicians and employees are making a positive impact in our communities. Thank you doctors for embracing Doctors’ Day Donations and thanks to everyone who shared a jar or two or more of peanut butter. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
